Strategic Review of Venture Capital Operations
Geo Genesis Group Limited, an advisory and investment company focused on China and other emerging markets, has undertaken a strategic review of its affiliate Sinoventures Holdings Limited (`SHL'). The Company announced in September 2008 it had established SHL to make investments and hold equity interests in four early stage companies with operations in and/or related to China. Under new terms, Geo Genesis will directly retain equity stakes in these and future venture transactions in order to improve synergies with its corporate consulting business and improve the access to capital for individual ventures.
Geo Genesis Chief Executive Officer Roger Bendelac said, "This is the optimal way for Geo Genesis to utilise its corporate consultancy expertise in developing these China related growth businesses, in which it already holds stakes. We look forward to taking a more active role in the development of these ventures and will ensure shareholders are updated as they progress."
SHL was established as a holding company for four ventures: Mediaglobe Productions Ltd (`Mediaglobe'), Dragonsource Trading Ltd (`Dragonsource'), Global Sealand Engineering Ltd (`Sealand') and Tradition Foods Ltd (`Tradition'). Following the review, Geo Genesis will assist each venture with the implementation of business plans, private placements and access to capital markets as required.
Mediaglobe Productions Ltd. (10 million shares/40% held by Geo Genesis) is primarily focused in developing financial media and information concepts in the emerging markets, with a current concentration in China. Its operations include the production of print and electronic media platforms for private equity and other related sectors and it is currently developing a database of Chinese private enterprises in cooperation with Geo Genesis. Mediaglobe is also expanding into specific digital media production including 3D animation, and is currently involved in a commercial partnership with Beijing based Yawee Digital for sector specific media related design and marketing.
Dragonsource Trading Ltd. (6 million shares/35% held by Geo Genesis) is a Sino-global trading and logistics advisory company that is involved in a joint venture with Wintex Logistics, the China based logistics subsidiary of the Hiking Group trading conglomerate and Eurofreight Logistics, one of the largest logistics companies in Cyprus. The joint venture is focused on the development of a regional (Europe/Africa/Mid East) distribution and logistics centre for Chinese exports in the Tax Free Zone of Cyprus. In addition, and also with the close co-operation with Hiking Group, Dragonsource is involved in the facilitation of trade between Chinese exporters/importers and companies in other emerging market countries in Africa, Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
Global Sealand Engineering Ltd. (6 million shares/35% held by Geo Genesis) is an environmental engineering company involved in the design and development of waste water treatment systems and products, as well as marina and other development solutions for environmentally sensitive coastal regions. In an exclusive partnership with Hydrema Baltech, Sealand is developing a distribution and production capability for its activities in China and other emerging market countries. Sealand also intends to seek finance and a listing in the US in the future.
Tradition Foods International Ltd. (6 million shares/35% held by Geo Genesis) is an international restaurant concept developer and facilitator for the emerging market restaurant industry, currently focused in China, where the industry is growing at a rate of 30% annually. Tradition has developed several restaurant concepts for the Chinese market and is in the process of negotiating a purchase option for one or more restaurant units. It also intends to seek private funding for the acquisition and/or establishment of several restaurant units in 2009 and 2010.
